Ellison Avenue United Methodist Church, known as the “little church with a big heart,” is located at 600 South Ellison Street in El Reno, Oklahoma. The church was founded in 1908 which makes this year the 100 year celebration! We invite all present and past members and guests to share in this exciting time by sharing your memories with us through this page. Every story is important to the history of our church. Were you married or baptized in our church? Did you ever attend or teach Sunday School or Vacation Bible School there? Did you sing in the choir, star in a Christmas program, serve as a candle lighter, participant in a church outing, or simple add to our joy by your presence in Sunday morning service. Do you remember another member who served the Lord at Ellison Avenue and thereby had an impact on your life? Please share your stories and pictures with us as we celebrate 100 years of God working through our church.
Here’s how to contribute. The church’s history is arranged by decades and the links are posted on the left side of this page. There is also a link to help us locate former members. If you know how we can locate these people, we would like to include them in this project. By clicking on the decade that your story comes from, you may read what others have shared. At the bottom of each article, you will see a hyperlink that says “post a comment”. When you click on that link, a new page will come up where you can type in your contribution. As a word of caution, I would advise you to have your story already typed in Microsoft word or whatever application you have, and then copy and paste it into the comment box. Mine often gets lost before I finish, and then I have to start all over. When you have finished, scroll to the bottom of that page and click on the link that says “publish post”. Your story will then be added to the church’s history for that decade. You may enter as many stories or pictures as you want to; remember, your story is part of our history.
If you have any questions or need help with this page, please e-mail me at Sharon.A.Wilbur-1@ou.edu or swilbur@elreno.k12.ok.us. I look forward to sharing your story as evidence of the many glories that God has performed at Ellison Avenue United Methodist Church. “Let love of the brethren continue.” Hebrews 13:1.
